Fallujah Pay Homage to Meshuggah with Their “The Obsidian Architect” Music Video
There’s something inherently punk rock about being a popular musician or band and filming a super simple DIY music video. It basically says “fuck having corporate backing, we’re doing it our way.” What Fallujah did with their video for “The Obsidian Architect” is both punk rock as hell and the opposite of that entirely — let me explain why.
Does the music video look cool? Yes. Is it a homage to Meshuggah and their music video for the iconic track “The Obsidian Architect”? Absolutely. Yet, read the statement as to why the video has a more DIY approach and ask yourself this: “is that punk rock?”
“We spent our entire budget on Lamborghinis and tattoos for the ‘Labyrinth of Stone’ music video, so we had to shoot this one ourselves. Best we could do. Enjoy.”
They didn’t have the budget, so that’s why it looks the way it does. This wasn’t a passion project where they glaze one of their influences, this was the financial result of blowing your load on fast cars and all sorts of other nonsense.
It’s a good thing their latest album Xenotaph has already been released, otherwise this lack of financial prudence and awareness might have cost them everything with this cycle. It also helps that record is damn good, so there’s that too.
Be sure to check out or purchase Xenotaph wherever you get your music these days. You won’t regreat it and it won’t cost as much as a Lamborghini, so you’ll be good to go.
(Obviously, I know they’re kidding and it’s all part of a schtick. Just play along with me, here.)
