‘I worry for them’ – The biggest loser of transfer window has talkSPORT host fearing for Premier League side
Liverpool may have won the transfer window but it’s Leeds that are the big losers of this summer’s shopping spree.
That’s the view of talkSPORT’s Jeff Stelling who cast an expert eye over the Premier Leagues wheeling and dealing this summer.

And while it’s all too easy to wax lyrical about the exciting incoming’s at Liverpool and Arsenal, Stelling has instead identified which three clubs have produced the worst windows.
From Alexander Isak’s British record £125million move to Anfield to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s £26m to Manchester City, Premier League clubs spent a combined total of £3.087bn in the summer window.
The total is more than what was spent by Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A clubs combined.
But according to Stelling, not all of that money was spent correctly with three clubs in particular failing to address their squad issues.
Third worst – Aston Villa.
It was a mixed window for Villa as they failed to land many of their main targets, while the sale of Jacob Ramsey raised a few eyebrows.
A flurry of deadline day deals may have stopped them featuring higher on the list.
“They kept [Emi] Martinez which is fantastic but look they didn’t get [Lucas] Paqueta. They had to sell Jacob Ramsey which I am absolutely certain Unai Emery did not want to do,” Stelling told talkSPORT.
“With Martinez, I think they wanted him out because it’s a huge amount off the wage bill.
“If you look at the players who left in recent times like Jhon Duran, [Marco] Asensio and [Marcus] Rashford who were on loan, Leon Bailey and Diego Carlos.
“They brought in Harvey Elliott who I like a lot. They brought in Jadon Sancho too who might turn the clock back and Viktor Lindelof.

“Their hands are tied. I know that, but I’m not impressed.”
Second worst – Manchester United
The Red Devils have spent big this summer, but have largely failed to address some of their problem areas.
It is still not a happy camp at Old Trafford with Kobbie Mainoo wanting to leave, but saw his exit blocked.
“Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha – yes, good signings. The jury is very, very, very definitely out on [Benjamin] Sesko, no question about that,” Stelling said.
“He’s not really had any opportunities so far so it’s too early to make a decision.
“They’ve got rid of some of them they wanted out of the door like Antony, Sancho and [Alejandro] Garnacho. But look at the hits they’ve taken on them financially, absolutely humungous.

“The two principal reasons why I think United have had a poor transfer window is that they needed to bring in someone with an engine in that midfield.
“I thought it was absolutely essential and they haven’t done so.
“Yes, they’ve got Kobbie Mainoo but he hasn’t got the sort of legs required to drive that midfield forward.
“And, they’ve gone for the cheap goalkeeper option. [Senne] Lammens might turn out to be a fantastic goalkeeper but it’s a humungous step for him to go from playing for Royal Antwerp in front of 12,00 people in the Belgian league to huge crowds at Old Trafford.

“For me, Emi Martinez was the obvious choice for Manchester United.”
Worst window – Leeds United
The worst… that goes to Leeds with major concerns raised about where their goals are going to come from.
“The team who have had the worst window and I apologise for this and the reason is because I can’t get excited over any of their signings is Leeds United,” Stelling revealed.
“I don’t know who is going to score the goals for them.
“I can’t get excited that they brought James Justin in. I can’t get excited that they brought Dominic Calvert-Lewin in. I can’t get excited that they brought Noah Okafor in.
“They needed a couple of strikers you can rely on to get goals.
“Calvert Lewin, you can’t rely on his fitness. Okafor didn’t pull up any trees for Milan, seven goals in 39 games.

“Nmecha another one, not a prolific goalscorer. That’s what worries me for Leeds.
“Sean Longstaff will do a good job in the middle of the park I’m sure of that but I worry for Leeds.”
