Just when it was starting to feel like every aural blueprint had been drawn, Monday’s Monsoon reverberated on our radar with ‘Tap Out’, their emotively hypnotic synthesis of psychedelic guitar oscillations, smoky brass serenades, tantalised percussive time signatures and ethereal vocal lines which scratch at the psyche until their euphony and philosophy makes itself home between the synapses. Lifted from their debut album Swim/Sink/Fly, ‘Tap Out’ slowly coils around you—gentle at first, then tightening its grip with swelling momentum and a visceral reminder of the quiet violence in surrender. After three diaphanous minutes, the single pushes momentum into the mix, amplifying the motivation to keep on pushing through the exhaustion of melancholy. From their base in London, Monday’s Monsoon have alchemised a sound that lives in the liminal space between grounded introspection and atmospheric transcendence. Even though they wore their influences on their sleeves, their authenticity and intrinsic sense of creative compassion became the emerging outfit’s armour.
