Ozzy Osbourne’s Freedom of the City of Birmingham Award Now Displayed at ‘Working Class Hero’ Exhibition
As one of the most decorated musicians ever, having an exhibition on his life was clearly a no brainer. Ozzy‘s “Working Class Hero” exhibition at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in Birmingham, England has understandably been a huge success, and as of today, a new relic has been added to it. Visitors can now find Ozzy’s quite prestigious Freedom of the City of Birmingham award on display amongst other high points of his life.
Each original member of Black Sabbath—Ozzy, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward—was presented their Freedom of the City scrolls and medals at the official ceremony by Councillor Zafar Iqbal, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham. The ceremony took place over the summer on June 28.
The Freedom of the City honors is one of the oldest in the country, meant to recognize people for their exceptional service and contributions locally. In Black Sabbath’s case, the honors bestowed acknowledge the significance of their music to Birmingham, and their influence to heavy metal, the country and beyond. As part of the honor, each Sabbath member also received the title of Honorary Freeman, along with getting their names engraved on the Freedom of the City marble board that was also revealed during the ceremony.
“Working Class Hero” will be open and on display until January 18, 2026.
