Study Reveals EDM Is the Top Genre for 1 in 10 Seniors
EDM isn't just for the club-hoppers or festival warriors—turns out, it's also the genre of choice for many senior citizens.
A new study by Carewell, a leading online retailer of home health and caregiving products, found that over 1 in 10 adults aged over 50 list electronic as their favorite genre of music.
The study surveyed nearly 600 seniors about the role music plays in their lives, uncovering a heartwarming affinity for electronic music legends like Avicii, Fatboy Slim and Daft Punk, the lattermost of whom found fans in roughly 10% of respondents. Sony Music Entertainment
Beyond genre-based preferences, the data paints a broader picture of music’s emotional power. 64% of respondents listen to music daily and more than a quarter regularly revisit live performances on YouTube. Meanwhile, 79% said music sparks happy memories and 77% believe it helps reduce stress.
A not-so-surprising statistic: 45% of seniors still primarily listen to music using AM/FM radio. Only 28% use Spotify, highlighting how many older adults haven't fully embraced streaming technology and continue to rely on more traditional ways of enjoying music.
Regardless, for many, these songs aren't relics of the past, but ongoing sources of comfort and connection. And for those wondering if their favorite bass drop will still hit decades from now, the forecast is looking pretty bright.
