Watch: More Than 45,000 People Sang “Mama, I’m Coming Home” at Savannah Bananas Game
Over the weekend, one of the cooler instances of remembering Ozzy Osbourne‘s legacy came during a very unexpected event. During a sold out Savannah Bananas game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, a capacity crowd broke out into a quick rendition of “Mama, I’m Coming Home”.
To put that into perspective, Citizens Bank Park is the home of the Philadelphia Phillies and can hold upwards of 46,000 people. Considering it was a sold out crowd, we’re talking about a massive amount of people all singing the classic 1991 track at once. This also came after they played “Crazy Train” earlier in the game.
For the uninitiated, the Savannah Bananas are basically the Harlem Globetrotters for baseball. Their games have crazy rules that change the spirit of baseball and there’s a constant party atmosphere the whole time. It’s a real good time, truth be told.
Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22, just weeks after the big ‘Back to the Beginning’ show that was supposed to be his and Black Sabbath’s swan song. One of the most touching moments of the night came when an obviously frail Osbourne sang “Mama, I’m Coming Home”. And for some reason people began cutting onions at that exact moment.
It’s just always cool to see even outside of a big metal festival or concert, people can still take the time to sing a classic song in memory of a lost legend.
