Never going to escape the “Lil Buc-ee” nickname.

If you’ve ever been to a Buc-ee’s gas station, you likely either love it or hate it. The franchise – which specializes in clean bathrooms and delicious brisket – has slowly expanded outside of its point of origin in Texas. I, for one, love the Buc-ee’s experience. Any other gas station visit pales in comparison to the massive, beaver-themed rest stop. Frankly, they do it better than any other gas station out there.

Buc-ee’s is so much more advanced than its gas station counterparts that they can even act as an emergency delivery room.

Believe it or not, a couple in Missouri welcomed a new child into the world while they were parked at a Buc-ee’s. Nathan and Jena Birdsong were trying to rush to the hospital when Jena started to go into labor in the wee hours of the morning on November 14. It soon became very apparent to the couple that they weren’t going to make it to the hospital, so they pulled over at Buc-ee’s and prepared for delivery.

Nathan told WKRC that it was really their only option considering the circumstances, and the 911 operator he was talking to helped walk him through the birthing process:

“I pulled in there, parked the truck, hopped out, got on her side, was trying to look, see if any emergency services were on the way, on the phone with 911, still with a representative from Mercy talking to me about how to deliver the baby. I delivered her at 3:16 a.m., and by 3:17 a.m., that’s when I saw the Strafford Police Department start coming in the parking lot.”

Police got there right in the nick of time (touch of sarcasm there).

But it’s good that they arrived, just in case anything went wrong with the Buc-ee’s parking lot birth. Jena and Nathan welcomed Elaina Grace Birdsong into the world as the big, yellow Buc-ee’s sign illuminated the Missouri night sky. It wasn’t how they planned it, but it’ll forever be a memorable moment that connects them to Buc-ee’s – whether they like it or not.

And from how the mother of the Buc-ee’s baby spoke about it, they are a little indifferent about the Buc-ee’s experience. Jena said that they don’t regularly go to the gas station, and if they do, it’s only to fill up with gas (they evidently don’t partake in the other amenities that the Texas-based business offers).

Which is unfortunate, because their baby has already been given a Buc-ee’s-themed nickname, and they’ve already received Buc-ee’s gifts during the holidays:

“Over the holidays, everyone kept saying, ‘Here’s Little Buc-ee. One of them got her a ‘Little Buc-ee’ Christmas ornament already. We don’t go to Buc-ee’s often, but we do love getting gas there. It’s going to be a great story.”

It’s hard to escape a nickname, and “Lil Buc-ee” is probably going to stick. And to be fair, not the worst nickname ever, right? So long as those teeth don’t come in super “beaver-y.”

Hopefully they can turn their story into an opportunity to connect with the store in some way. If their kiddo is nicknamed “Lil Buc-ee,” and they get free brisket sandwiches and discounted gas out of it, I’d say it’s worth the trouble that might come with having that nickname. The post Baby Earns The Nickname “Lil Buc-ee” After Being Born In Buc-ee’s Parking Lot In Missouri At 3 AM first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
